For the record, I am a Senate candidate in South Australia, being #2 on the Australian Democrats team. I previously served 15 years in the upper house of the South Australian Parliament. Having lived in SA since 1980 and being politically active I hope I can fill in a few knowledge gaps where little is known about a candidate or party..

In relation to Group E, Bob Day and Pat Amadio, Bob Day was a Family First party Senator from 2014-16, and previously a member of the Liberal Party–on the far right, belonging as he did to the H R Nicholls Society. He was a building and property developer which went bankrupt.

In relation to Group R, Senator Rex Patrick may have been upstaged/undermined by the reappearance of show-pony Nick Xenophon on the eve of the election. Ironically, Patrick had been one of Xenophon’s candidates, elected under the SA Best banner. As an independent, Patrick has steadily built up a loyal supporter base. A former sub-mariner, he has maintained regular and informed commentary about the government’s poor handling of Australia’s submarine project. He is a strong supporter of Julian Assange and press freedom. He has adopted Australian Democrats slogan of ‘Keep the Bastards Honest’.as his own.
